Professional Experience and Affiliations:
Dr. Alfares aerned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1987 from Kuwait University. He continue his higher education in the USA to earn his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1995, he joined Kuwait University as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Alfares areas of interest includes: Robotics (Kinematics, Control, and Application), System Dynamics, Control, and Mechanical Vibration, Condition-Based System Monitoring, and Manufacturing Processes & Mechanical Testing.
Dr. Alfares is professionally affiliated with many institutes and organization such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student member from 1988 till 1994, ASME associate member from 1994 till now, a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, USA, since 1988, a member of the International Association of Automation and Robotics in Construction, UK, since 1990, a member of Vibration Institute, USA, since 1998.
In 2002 he became the Assistant Vice President of Planning at Kuwait University. Also, in the year 2003, he became a member of the review committee for the Private University Council in Kuwait.
In 2007, he was selected to become Kuwait University Construction Program Director to supervise the construction of Kuwait University new campus at Shidadiya. Then became the General Secretary of Kuwait University during the year 2016.
On December 2016, he was selected to become the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education. Currently, Dr. Alfares holds the position of Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineeing at Kuwait University and chairman of the board for FAWSEC Educational Company.
